How Far Along: 24 weeks 5 days
Size: 1lb11oz, and about 11.8in head to toe. Food comparison – As long as an ear of corn, or a mielie (mee-lee) as we say in South Africa 😉
Weight gain: They didn’t have a scale to weigh me at the Doctor’s office this week, but they could weigh my baby, magic?
Gender: Looking away at the ultrasound again this week was torture, but I know it’s going to be worth it!
Baby bump: It seems like the 20th week growth spurt has calmed down and Mr. Bump is just slowly getting bigger and bigger. I love patting and rubbing it all.day.long.
Movement: Baby knows how to dance in there, that’s for sure. He/she was in an excellent position for the Nurse and Doctor to get a good look at the heart this week. Well done baby Deane.
Exercise: I have been enjoying yoga every alternate day, doing my own modifications as I need them. Don’t look to me for the example folks! I have stopped doing headstands, but occasionally do a shoulder stand when I feel like it. Wheel pose is out and my chaturanga looks like a belly flop into the pool but I’m working on it. The breathing is so helpful, so I keep coming back!
Clothing: Is it weird that I have procrastinated shopping? I still need shorts and some cropped jeans. Next week’s post will have some…I promise. Eeek.
How I’m feeling: In early May, the Doctor told us that our baby had a single umbilical artery. This was a little concern because it meant that other serious issues could arise. He told us to come back in 6 weeks to follow-up and so this week was our check-up appointment. We covered our little one in prayer, as did many others (thank you!) and we tried to get through the 6 weeks with as much faith as we could muster. We knew that we loved this baby no matter what, and that we were the parents that this precious child is meant to have. I didn’t realize how nervous I was to hear what the Doctor was going to say until we were in that waiting room again this week!
We went in and the first thing we saw was baby swallowing so sweetly. Oh those cute lips and chin. The nurse checked the heart and said baby was in an excellent position to get the billions of photos they need. She said baby has an A+ heart and she could take pictures of it all day. Yes! Although I didn’t sigh with relief just yet.
Oh my sweet child, we love you so much! (On the left he/she is really thinking hard about something!)
The Doctor came in and said the heart looks very good. He then called the nurse back to the screen and all of us held our breath… He then went on about something miraculous about the heart that I can’t explain well so I’m not going to try. And…breathe out. He said, “Do you have any questions?” to which I replied, “So everything is fine?” and he confirmed we have a healthy baby! We finally could smile and celebrate that our little one is doing just fine! Thanks for all your support through this! Parenting is going to be tough!
Cravings/Aversions:
Cravings- Ice-cream. Thank goodness for this Frozen Strawberry Coconut Pie.
Aversions- Still the same: Sundried tomatoes, peanut sauce, stirfry, curry, and meat smells. Yucky!
Food: Since we do love our food here at Rebelle Kitchen, I thought I’d add a picture of some of the food I ate this week. This is by no means a full account of all my meals but just some that I managed to snap a photo of.
Left to right, top to bottom:
Vegan pancakes
The beginnings of a veggie pot pie (We ate the leftovers for daaaaays)
Rebelle salad pockets (Coming soon to the blog)

Avocado and tomato toast (I can’t get enough of this!)
What I miss:
Lying on my tummy and back (still my number one miss!) (I’m not changing this…ever)
Hugging Daniel without my tummy getting in the way, lol.
Nursery: We finally have a white room. I love taking photos in there, the natural light is so pretty. I’m struggling to find a good layout for my twin bed and the crib mattress to lay on the floor. Nothing looks great. We will start putting art and mirrors on the walls soon!
Baby Purchases: We bought our car seat and stroller this week!! We were so grateful to have received some money from my family up in Pennsylvania that covered the whole thing! Luckily a friend told me you can use non-expired BedBath&Beyond coupons at BuyBuyBaby that saved us $70! We bought an extra base for my mom and stepdad with our savings. I know they probably just price everything higher to account for the coupons but hey, it was still cheaper than the Graco website so it was a win.
I’m not sure if I mentioned that Daniel did an epic Excel spreadsheet comparing top rated travel systems in terms of price, safety features, storage, stability and more. He is a whizz using Excel. I’m more of a MS Word girl. We went and tested out a few to see how they folded up, clicked together and how easy it was to steer and turn. We landed on the Graco Aire4 XT Performance Travel System. A very fancy name for a car seat and stroller if you ask me. We are very happy with it, and hope baby likes it too.

Graco Aire4 XT Travel System Radiant | BuyBuyBaby $287.99 with coupon | Graco $359.99 (I wanted this one so badly but it’s not very gender neutral. Humpf.)
Did I get any of the other things I said I needed last week? Nope.
Hubby: I am just so grateful to have Daniel by my side. I’d pick him to be the father of my child over and over again if I had to. Check my Instagram @veganstrong to see his 23-week ‘pregnant’ picture. He is hilarious. It’s his birthday this weekend and I’m doing yoga teacher training, so I feel really bad about that. Happy Birthday my lovey!
Can’t wait for: Assist training this weekend, so we can learn how to do those lovely foot rubs in Savasana and that gorgeous chest/shoulder opener in Triangle pose.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Till next week,
