How Far Along: 27 weeks 5 days

Size: 2lbs, and about 14 ½ in head to toe. Food comparison – Head of cauliflower.

Gender: Daniel says the baby looks like a little boy in our last ultrasound picture.

Weight gain: 20lbs (9kgs) wowzers!

Baby bump: Bump is steadily growing. Baby hasn’t kicked out the belly button yet though. Holding thumbs he/she doesn’t.

Movement: During my appointment this week, the Midwife at Baby+Co said I should check baby’s movements each day now. In a two hour period, I probably should be feeling the baby at least 10 times. Sometimes baby moves all 10 in 5 minutes, and others over an hour or two.

Exercise: I really struggled in my yoga practice this week. I did a lot of assisting and only practiced three times. My mind was everywhere else! I’m looking forward to training this weekend so I can get back on track.

Clothing: With the jeans and shorts that I bought last week, I am all set. I do need to look for a maternity bathing suit (swimming costume as we say in SA) for our trip to Hilton Head next month. Any favorites out there?

How I’m feeling: I broke out in pimples on both sides of my chin last week. It’s finally clearing up though! I also have something under both of my eyes, like some red raised bumps. I’ve had the one my whole pregnancy, now the other eye is ‘flaring up’. I meant to ask the Midwife about it but I forgot. I’ll send them an email. I’ve been much more productive this week so I’ve also been getting tired in the afternoons. Little power naps before Daniel comes back from work really help!

Cravings/Aversions:

  1. Cravings- Croissants (I had one at Sunflower Bakery this week. Fail. Food guilt.)

  2. Aversions- Still the same: Sundried tomatoes, peanut sauce, stirfry, curry, and meat smells. Please go away soon!

Food: I forgot to pose this last week – these are some of the yummy things I ate. This week I was bad about photographing my food.

(Left to right, top to bottom – 1. Acai bowl 2. Salad with chicken-less nuggets 3. Veggie burgers 4. Vegan hot dog pies? (I saw it on Pinterest and made it right then and there!) 5. My fave – watermelon 6. Chocolate chip cookies (again!)

What I miss:

  1. You guessed it—-Lying on my tummy and back (still my number one miss!)(I’m not changing this…ever)

  2. Finding something to wear quickly! I basically wear the same thing over and over. It’s like I have a capsule wardrobe of 10 things. Ensley, are you proud or embarrassed of me?

Nursery: We are making good progress and can’t wait to be finished. The prints we ordered on Etsy arrived and I took a sneak peak pic of two of them. I’ll be doing a “Nursery Reveal” post soon!

Baby Purchases: I bought gray and gold (champagne apparently!) frames for our prints at Bed Bath and Beyond. I’m really happy with how they look in the room. I’m still looking for handles/knobs for our dresser. Not having much luck finding big white ones. Tisk tisk. On another note, one of my friends from Chantilly gave us an amazing Pack ‘n Play and we are so grateful. Thank you! This community of families are incredible! (Why did I take so long to join?)

Hubby: Daniel is so good at starting and finishing tasks. He has been keeping me on track with getting the nursery ready and has hung frames, shelves and curtains. He talks to baby everyday and loves us both so well. He hurt his foot playing soccer and was in a boot for a couple days so I got to see how much he already does for us. Usually it’s, “Please get me this, please carry this…” but this week mama had to do it herself 😉

Can’t wait for: We’ve actually decided to do two hospital tours here in Charlotte. One is next week (Novant) and the other at the end of the month (CMC). We haven’t made a decision not to have baby at Baby+Co, but want to look at other options, especially since our baby has the single umbilical artery and we want what’s best for him/her. Also, we are not in-network with Baby+Co and were denied our appeal for in-network coverage. Nooooooo. We are excited to see what the hospital experience might look like for us. We know that each labor and delivery is unique and special to each family. I’m still getting all my prenatal care at Baby+Co and am loving meeting all the wonderful Midwives. I did my Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) this week and passed! They gave me a cute B+C water bottle just to say well done for drinking this SUPER sugary drink (50g) that made my eyes squint. I also couldn’t tell if I was very tired or very energetic. It was weird. I’m glad I don’t have to do it again soon! They did say my Iron levels were low. I have not been eating my green leafy veggies at all, I just haven’t felt like it. They recommended a plant-based supplement to help prepare my body for the blood loss that takes place during birth. It’s getting real folks. Eeeek!

This is really an incredible journey and I can honestly say that I am the most content I have ever been in my life. Everything about this feels so right for me, and Daniel too. Thanks to everyone for reading my updates and all the support, gifts and prayers!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Till next week,
